Proper Nouns
Proper nouns are the names of specific people or places. They should always begin with a capital.
Please give this to Mary, not to Anna.
George is going to California.
Amsterdam is the capital of the Netherlands.
The girl’s name is Catherine.
Catherine is a proper noun because it’s the name of a specific girl. Girl is not a proper noun. (See Common Nouns.)
