Which sentence is correct?

My sister went to the bathroom, but couldn't turn the knob. She said "My hands are too sweaty for the door not to work." I corrected her with "My hands are too sweaty for the door to work." I provided a similar sentence to prove I was right: "My legs are too weak to support my body." If I had said "My legs are too weak to not support my body", it wouldn't make sense, would it? Please help me settle this debate with her.
