Years ago, while traveling in Denmark I went to an American movie. Standing in line, I noticed something different -- but could not put my finger on what it was. Before the movie started, a couple asked me -- in English, not Danish -- if they could sit next to me. It was then I realized that everybody in line had been speaking English. I explained that I was an American and asked why people were using English while waiting for the show to start..

The couple explained that since the movie was in English, everyone spoke English to "tune" their ears for the movie.

If you can, go to movies and watch TV shows that are in English. Go with friends. Practice your English before and after the show. This will help you with listening and speaking -- and you will have fun too.

Many years back, I went to an outdoor movie in a small village in Mexico (Zihuatenejo was the small village - way back), . The movie was English with Spanish subtitles, and the noise level was such that I couldn't hear a thing and had to try to get by with the subtitles.
