Should pastor have and ed whening speaking in past tense?

See example:

In 1938 he became the Pastor of Christ Temple Church in Muskegon, Michigan and pastored for approximately 10 years.

I do not think that 'to pastor' is a verb; therefore, you should not add an 'ed' at the end.  It is better to say "he served as a pastor there for approx. . . ".
