But what I can't figure out is what "i" means. In Spanish, "y" means "and," and you see "i" used instead of "y" in writings more than two hundred years ago. But putting "and" in place of "i" in the question does not make sense.  I've looked in every English dictionary I can find, and there are no entries for "i".

Kim, the world is not a cell phone and this forum is not a text message. Capitalizing the personal pronoun "I" is not optional in the real world. It is mandatory. Please learn to get in the habit of always, ALWAYS following the basic rules of capitalization, punctuation, and grammar. If you don't you will be at a severe disadvantage when it comes to getting and keeping a job. I am speaking not as an old "fart," but as somebody who has watched several young people lose their jobs because they could not communicate effectively and correctly in writing.

I'll second that, and I preach the same doctrine to my college and high school students. Many of my students are learning the hard way the truths of the working world, whether it's capitalizing "I" or showing up on time.
