Can I write"The friends and family of Jason visited him at hospital last night." Thanks.
You can, but it is wordy. At jumps out at me, as well. It is more likely that they visited him in the hospital. Patients are in hospitals. Nurses, doctors, and other employees work at hospitals.
Jason's friends and family visited him in the hospital.
In American English, we use an article before hospital. It is my understanding that British English doesn't require an article before hospital.
