Angry is an adjective and angrily is an adverb. Hence, a verb must always be modified by an adverb. The boy grew up angrily.

Thanks for the reply! I'm using mute as an adjective not a verb. Can angry and mute go together like that if they are both being used as adjectives? For example would the sentence, "the boy grew up angry and silent" make sense? Please let me know. Thanks!
