Which is correct: The Connecticut Authors' Society or The Connecticut Authors Society?

I'm thinking that The Connecticut Authors Society is correct (no apostrophe)  because we are a group but we do now possess or own the society (no charter or legal status). Would the name be correct as Connecticut Authors Society? I see a mix out there of both with apostrophe (Authors') and without. Can you explain usage here? I can't seem to find any references that address this specifically.
