Just okay-wasn't bad either

Please consider the following conversation :-

[ A: How was today's test?

  B: It was just okay.

A: You've got 2  more, right?  You'll do well in those.  Also, when you say okay, I believe yesterday's wasn't bad either. Anyway, good luck with your next exam. ]

Only B was having exams. A wasn't having any exam.

"Wasn't bad either" comes under litotes, right?

In the above context when someone says the exam was "just okay', how appropriate was "A's" reply?

Kindly reply  considering the linguistic and the contextual side. What you would understand if you were 'B' and this was the reply you got from 'A'.
