Compliment versus Complement AGAIN!!!

Compliment vs Complement: The battle continues!!!! Somebody answered me on the difference between compliment and complement.  Compliment=nice thing that you say about somebody.  Complement=to complete something/someone.  But the example that they gave was confusing (about getting a divorce because they would not compliment each other.) I guess I am not the only one who thought it was confusing because then another person said I can use compliment for all of the sentences.  So who is right???

oops he said getting a divorce because they would not Complement each other (but i thought compliment would work too)
