hello! I am often confused in what cases I should add suffix -al (e.g. economical, educational, vocational, etc) and in what cases not. Could you clarify this to me? Thanks in advance!

For most noun+al adjectives, as you can see, the adjective without the -al suffix is used before the noun it describes, and the -al form is used after the verb. I think there are some archaic exceptions which do not conform to this system, but can only think of 'court-martial' (pl. 'courts-martial').

Have just realised that 'vocational', at least, does not conform to this pattern: e.g.'vocational courses'. Back to the drawing board.
