Passive Voice Use

How would I change "was excited" to a more active voice rather than passive? what are some suggestions?

See example:

In a way, I was excited to be going off to college and be subjected to residence life at Virginia State University.

" I was excited" is not a passive, it's an adjective, and it sounds just fine. "To be subjected to" is in the passive voice, and it also sounds fine, but i would say " life as a resident".
