Thanks Kimberly! So as far as proper comma punctuation goes I take it that this rewording would be correct??? Yes the reworded sentence sounds stupid, but It's just an example to make sure.
The next day I thought sure mom would say 'What goes around comes around,' because she always says that, but instead she replied saying, "When you play with fire, you'll get burned."
Let's fix a bit more of the rest of the sentence, while we're at it. (Your punctuation of the quote is correct though!)
