Rules for use of prefixes "in-" vs. "un-"


How do you predict which prefix - "in-" vs. "un-" for a word? e.g. inappropriate vs. unappropriate?

it depends on the origine of the word. it takes "un" if it is a Germanic English. or "in" if it Latin english
