Study 1 and 2 were conducted using mostly white infants from middle class families in Philadelphia averaging at 10.5 months old. The parent and child sat in front of a Fagan board which allowed for two objects to be attached to it apart from each other. The reflection of the objects and the infant’s reactions were recorded. Two boring objects and two interesting objects were used; a boring object and an interesting object were always paired.
