Grammar problem - Preposition 'from' missing.

Is this age-old statement grammatically correct: "To whom much is given, much is expected."?

1 answer

It is correct. Of course, it would be more clear if we were to write, "To whom much is given, much is expected of." But, to this day, writers try to avoid ending sentences with prepositions. Let's try re-writing and including the proper relative pronouns in the sentence so that it may be more clear.

"Much is expected of him who is given much."

The pronouns/preposition 'of' in the quote you gave are implied and the word order tinkered for poetic effect.
