Comma use


Grammarly suggests removing the comma after "Kathy," but I think it needs to be there because Kathy describes "my firend's mom."

See example:

For instance, my friend's mom, Kathy, was diagnosed with major depression a few years ago.

You are correct. In this sentence, "Kathy" is an appositive that needs to be surrounded by commas.
