Straighten out logical connections
Another type of mixed constructions is when the verb and the subject do not make sense together. This type of error is sometimes referred to as a prediction error. This occurs when the linking verb (is/are, was/were, will be, would be) is used to join elements that can not be compared. Consider the following revisions:
A compromise between Disneyland and Hawaii would be an ideal place to vacation. (Mixed Construction)
A place combining features of Disneyland and Hawaii would be an ideal place to vacation. (Revision)
Therefore, the writer must ensure the elements on either side of the linking verb can be compared. Consider the following revisions:
Her greatest accomplishment at the volleyball tournament was when she aced seven serves in a row. (Mixed Construction)
Her greatest accomplishment at the volleyball tournament was acing seven serves in a row. (Revision)
The reason she can not come with us is because she did not get her math homework done. (Mixed Construction)
She can not come with us because she did not get her math homework done. (Revision)
