Evidence and Proof
If you’re using empirical evidence for your proof, collect all the data from your lab results and go straight on to documentation.
If you’re doing a research paper, the evidence for the supporting points must come from research, not from your memory of some long ago class. Each piece of evidence should be written (or said) by someone else, preferably someone who is considered an expert on the subject.
If you find your evidence isn’t relating to your supporting points or thesis, you may need to re-think everything, beginning with the thesis. It’s alright to begin with the evidence and end with an appropriate thesis.
