Editing Sentences
Save this until you have completed your global revisions. You will have a better paper if you separate these tasks and do one at a time. Look for sentence errors and errors in agreement between subject and verb and between pronouns and their antecedents. What about types of sentences? An essay written all in simple sentences is boring although writers tend to do that when they are concentrating on the subject matter. This is a good time to add variety by changing some of those simple sentences to complex or compound sentences. Sentence variety makes for more interesting reading.
Have you used action verbs that bring your writing alive? If not, go back and find some to substitute for the linking verbs. Make certain you have avoided passive-voice verbs. They take the gumption out of your prose.
