“And, the winner is…”

At Grammarly, we have the unique privilege of connecting with hundreds, if not thousands, of bloggers, writers, and authors every month. Through our Blogger Partnership Program, we have also found a home on many blogs and websites.

Why, exactly, are so many people jumping on the “Grammarly” bandwagon?

We’re asking our new friends to let us know by completing the following thought: “I use Grammarly because ___________________.” Then, post the sentence at the top of your latest blog post and send us the link! Each month, Grammarly will select one participant with the wittiest line as the winner of a $100 Amazon.com gift card.

Cool, right?

In January we received a number of responses, but this one by Kim Bongiorno, of Let Me Start By Saying, was our favorite!

kim bongiorno“I use Grammarly to check my grammar because sometimes I spell it ‘grammer’ and I have the tendency to write long, run-on sentences that use so much breath to read aloud that I accidently murder people who try to do so with my blog posts.”

Congratulations, Kim! You’re the winner of a $100 Amazon.com gift card. Keep inspiring us with your creativity, and spread the word to your friends.

While Kim’s post was hilarious, run-on sentences are a common problem among writers. A run-on sentence contains two or more independent clauses (a group of words with a subject and a verb that can stand alone as a sentence) that are not connected with correct punctuation.

Not sure what this means for your writing? You’re in luck. Grammarly’s automated proofreader can help you to find and prevent these, and other, grammatical blunders in your writing.

Winners of the monthly contest are contacted via the email address provided in their blog entry. Please congratulate Kim in the comments below, and think about writing your own post about why you use Grammarly for a chance to be next month’s winner.
