The proper use of "make it difficult"

0

Is there a way to make this sentence more simple and easy understandable?

See example:

These characteristics of acculturation make it difficult for researchers to measure it, and to present the outcomes of this process in plain figures.

These characteristics make it difficult for researchers to measure acculturation as well as to present the outcomes of the process in simple figures.

I think this may be more clear, but it is challenging to know without more information about the context of the text.  I assumed that 'these characteristics' will be clear to the audience because you probably have just finished discussing them.
