Should I use subheadline or sub headline or sub-headline?

The "rules" of hyphenation -- such as they are -- tell us that when common prefixes are added to words, they should not be hyphenated --> subheadline.


That said, a subheadline is better known as a subhead or subheading -- old words that date to 1673.


The article needs a subhead.
