Crank up the air conditioning / conditioner.

I saw this sentence, Crank up "the air-conditioning." And I think Crank up "the air-conditioner" is also possible and meanings of them are the same. What do you experts think?

Thank you so much as usual and have a good day,

Regarding the hyphen -- this is a strange one that does not quite follow the "rules," such as they are.

Air-condition, a transitive verb, is hyphenated. Air condition and air conditioner, as nouns, are not. But air-conditioning, also a noun, is hyphenated.

Or so says the Merriam-Webster Collegiate Dictionary.

I hope this helps.
