American Horror Story is a television show about a family who moves into a haunted house and faces trouble that will shatter their lives forever; more specifically, it is their daughter who endures misery and soon finds another whom she can share her pain with.

. . . forever. More specifically, . . .
. . . the daughter . . .
. . . with whom she can share her pain.
If you were to use . . . a family that moves into a haunted house and faces . . . you would run into problems with the pronoun they further on.
