closing punctuation
this sentence has a period before the quatation marks. How can it be incorrect.

"The ladies did a wonderful job preparing the food and decorating the room."

Why do you think something is wrong?
By American standards, you have properly punctuated your sentence. The British, however, would place the period after the ending quotation mark if the period was not part of the originally published quote. If this is dialogue, the Britsih and American standards both place the period inside the quotation mark.
