capitalization
When using the word president in a sentence and you're not referring to a specific president, should it be capitalized? Also, when using the secret service in a sentence, should it be capitalized?

Tolley's answer is 100 percent correct.
However, you may be confused by what you see in the official literature generated by political offices. This literature almost always capitalizes political titles in any position in the text. In formal writing, you should follow Tolley's advise -- not the bad example set by the politicians.
