Better choice of descriptors

0

Example:

"Lacking of respect and recognition is distressful."

Question:

1. Any better descriptors for "lacking" and "distressful"?

2. Any other suggestion in grammar aspects?

3. What about change "is" to "can be"?

1) Lacking --> lack; 'distressful' is fine.

2) No.

3) Both are correct.  Using 'can be' makes the sentence a bit more philosophical.
