Commas
Do I have to put commas in this sentence :
I was young, but now, I am old
The sentence is just an example... are the commas alright? or should I remove them?

The comma use here is great before the conjunction "but." The comma use after "now" is incorrect. You can either use a comma before and after "now" or remove the commas altogether. Personally, because the sentences are so short, I would suggest not using commas around "now."
