The question is how were we affected?
Can someone help me word this properly?
It can be confusing when one is making a statement that there is a question. With the words you have used, you need to set the question apart from the statement.
The question is, "How were we affected?"
If you don't want to use the quotation marks, you can change the whole thing into a statement. There is also no question mark this way.
We must determine how we were affected.
We questioned how we were affected.
