linking words
my question is : if words" to" and "for" are linking words or not?
for example :
we study in university to improve our knowledge .is "to" a linking word here?
or
we study in university for impriving our knowledge . is "for here a linking word?
thanks

"To" is used as preposition, infitive marker and adverb. In your sentence, it is infinitive marker.
"For" is used as preposition and conjunction. Here you have used it as preposition.

"To" is an infinitive, and it acts as an adverb clause of reason. Whereas "for" is a prepostion.
We study at university to improve our knowledge (Here in your sentence "to" indicates the purpose of an action and it is always followed by a present tense verb.)
Why do we study at university?(( It is an adverb Clause of reason that indicates why the particular action of the verb is taken.
To improve our knowledge.
Ex:2 I helped him because he is my best friend.
"because he is my best friend" is an adverb clause of reason.
or
we study at university for improving our knowledge . (Even in this sentence "for" indicates the purpose of an action, but it is used as a preposition. It is always followed by a gerund form)
I will give you another example for your better understanding.
I thought of coming to your house.
