"Currently" suggests that the entire amount spilled today.  As I'm sure that these spills were not purposeful, "caused" mmay not lend the right meaning -- perhaps "allowed". The concluding phrase is awkward.

To date, the oil companies have allowed over two million gallons of oil to spill into the ocean with a significant impact on the coastal environment.

I hope that your context provides limiting information -- where have these spills occured, which ocean -- as the two million gallons is not factually correct in a global sense.  First, oil is typically measured in barrels -- 1 barrel = 42 US gallons = 158.9873 liters. Second, the 2010 Deepwater Horizon spill alone is estimated at 4.9 million barrels or 205.8 million gallons.
