The rules about using an article can be confusing. Generally, you need to use an article before nouns, but not in all cases. You can just write:
I bought new shoes.

The funny thing is, Lewis, I'm not actually girlie girl & avoid shopping unless it is a social activity. I wear sneakers most days, but I do have a pair of pumps, a pair of flats, & some hiking boots.
