question on 'revert'

0

Hi,

I have finished drafting an email and towards the end I write the sentence "Please revert on this mail id". If I use 'revert' to mean 'reply' or 'respond' then as per me it's a wrong usage, because 'revert' means to 'fall back' or 'regress'. Is revert an apt word for 'reply' or 'respond'? Is it a proper diction?

Can you share a more proper, fashionable yet a non-cliched word for reply/ respond.

Thanks

'Revert' is not the proper word in this context. 'Reply' or 'respond' are both perfectly acceptable to use, and neither would cause anyone to think you are using a cliche.  Cliches are seldom single words used properly.
