ow Hto use that is

Does this sentence sound ok?

See example:

Still, Researchers carryon as though biological determinism is the call of the day, not to mention, the trouble with Molecular Biology has been that the aim of research is first and foremost conducted in an inadequate way; that is, Gannett calls for advancement in a theoretical understanding of the gene concept.

I'm sorry to tell you, Rebecca, that it does not sound okay. It is a run-on sentence, rambling from thought to thought. You are trying to connect all of these thoughts, but it creates a very disconnected message that is difficult to understand. Researchers is not a proper noun. Carry on is not one word.
