Use of Capitals for Microsoft Excel Commands

0

I am discussing in a book a couple of Microsoft Excel and Outlook commands and functions and I need a little help on the format.

Microsoft Excel

Commands:

sort

subtotal

Functions:

vlookup

hlookup

Microsoft Outlook

Commands:

delay send

Which of the following format would be correct in a sentence?

vlookup

Vlookup

VLOOKUP

Any help on how to capitalize these terms would be appreciated.

I'd follow Microsoft's lead on this one. Just look at their tutorials or tech support pages.  As with all Excel functions, they write VLOOKUP & HLOOKUP in all caps.  I didn't look up the commands, but I believe they are generally capitalized like proper nouns.

Pick a style and be constistent.

Run the program, run help, and check out their format for commands.
