I believe that the following sentence is correct, but I do not know why.

"The book was action-packed and filled with details about futuristic technology, like a bizarre cyberpunk combination of James Bond and The Matrix."

Has the comma been used correctly in the sentence? If so, why is it correct?

'like a bizarre cyberpunk combination of James Bond and The Matrix.' is a non-restrictive dependent clause, which means it is not necessary for the sentence to make sense. These clauses require the use of the comma.

The book was action-packed and filled with details about futuristic technology, like a bizarre cyberpunk combination of James Bond and The Matrix.
