Using tid bits of another language.

Do you consider it to be in bad taste to add a phrase such as "je ne sais quoi" in your writing? I am finishing the essay question portion of a scholarship app in case you find that relevent.

I would use foreign expressions sparingly and be sure to italicize them.

I agree with Lewis.  Use them sparingly.  Of course we don't know the exact context, but this one just doesn't seem like something you would use in a scholarship application.  The translation is "I do not know what."  Though it is perfectly natural for a student to have a lot of uncertainty, I'd bet that more scholarships go to students who exude confidence.
