What's the difference between 'other' and 'the other'
Is there any difference between "other" and "the other"? What are the appropriate contexts for each one of them?

"The other" is usually referring to the second or remaining among two or more, and to being of the recent past: just the other day.
"Other" is referring to something or someone different / alternate / additional.

In sentences, it would be like this:
"Erica could have worn the silky red dress, but, she chose to wear the other one, which was leather."
"Erica could have worn the silky red dress, but, she chose to wear something other, which was the silky red pant suit."
