What that makes it...

"Tell me what you'd say that truly makes it real."
(Song : Love is You)

I saw this in a song and I was wondering if this sentence is correct in grammar? I think that the "that" should be omitted and it might be rewritten to "Tell me what you'd say truly makes it real." and or that clause can modify what here? What do you experts think? Thank you so much and have a good day.

Removing 'that' doesn't work. There are other ways of saying this, but this sentence is fine.

Grammar rules are relaxed on song lyrics and other forms of poetry in order to keep the proper meter of the verse flowing or for rhyming.  You just have to let the words flow, and being a strict grammarian will stifle the art form.
