Can I write “Its color is brown” when writing about animals? Or “Its brown in color”?
The first sentence is really unnatural. I don't think native speakers would ever say that. The second is fine for writing style. In spoken English, we would just say "It's brown." or "It's a brown colour." You need the apostrophe for the second sentence because "it's" means" it is."
