according to or depending on the probability?

Hello everyone.

I asked the same thing before, but I am confusing again the usage of according to, and depending on.

In the following sentence:

Indivisuals can choose the status to update according to (or depending on?) the probability w.

Here w is the parameter in a simulation indicating the probability to choose the way to forward the simulation. This value is fixed thorough the simulation.

Thank you for your help.
