Difference between these expressions

What's the difference between "let's camp and let's go camping" or is it the same thing?

1 answer

The meanings are very close, but would be used at different times in normal conversation.

Let's camp.

If you and a group are out hiking, one might say, "Let's camp."  This means it's getting late, and let's make camp right now.

Let's go camping.

This would be said in the planning stage of the trip; before you left.
