Correct usage of a nickname

A Corvette is commonly called a "Vette". How should it appear in print? 'Vette 'vette or vette ???

See example:

The 'Vette sputters, groaning in its final throes of death, cruelly mimicking the spasms jerking my limbs.

I have usually seen it written as 'Vette, have also seen it without the apostrophe. It's always capitalized, I believe.  I would use the apostrophe.
