I am having troubles seeing what the problem is here, can someone help?

See example:

For the type of heinous crimes that would often place someone on death row takes away my support for them to continue their own life.

Ask the question "What takes away my support for them to continue their own life"? The answer should come from the first part of the sentence, but "For the type of heinous crimes that would often place someone on death row" seems awkward as an answer.

You could revise this as follows:

The heinous crimes committed by perpetrators who are awarded the death sentence, takes away my support for their right to live.
