Is this still an example of faulty parallelism?

My original sentence: "The scarlet letter “A” that Hester Prynne is sentenced to wear, though originally designed to oppress her, ends up making her revolutionary."

Would writing something along the lines of "The scarlet letter “A” that Hester Prynne is sentenced to wear, though originally designed to oppress her, ends up freeing her" correct this issue?

Can someone please explain?
