"The next year we got married" could also be correct in the right context.
For example, you're describing something that happened in the past that had an influence on your relationship. Then you made up again (against all odds) and then you can say "the next year we got married".
"the next year" is describing the time something happened after another event, both in the past.
Without this kind of context I would fully agree with Sanjay.
