Possessive Pronouns: mine yours his hers ours theirs

"of hers" is a prepositional phrase.

"of" is the preposition

"hers" is the object of the preposition, and all objects are nouns or pronouns, not adjectives

"He is a great friend of hers." (pronoun)

vs

"Her great friend..." (adjective)
