What is wrong with saying someone is average looking?
He was average looking as well, straight nose, square jaw.
Do you mean, what's wrong with it in general? It could be perceived as an insult: "average-looking" is kind of a polite way of saying "not much to look at" or "not especially good-looking." Grammatically, though, it's fine as long as you hyphenate it.
Also, you've got a comma splice in your sentence. You can correct it this way:
He was average-looking as well, with a straight nose and square jaw.
