I know the following sentence is incorrect yet when I place the s at the end of Tony It shows the word is incorrect. Please help me understand what is wrong. Thank you, Dollie Mason

They talked about many things including their friend, Tony’ lost dog, which had been gone for over a week now.

See example:

Meanwhile, they called the other game because of rain and some of the coaches along with several boys waited in the dugout until it had stopped raining before they started home.

"They talked about many things including their friend, Tony’ lost dog, which had been gone for over a week now."

I think it's a misplaced modifier issue.  A modifier is a word/phrase that modifies or tells more information about something else in the sentence.  As it is written, "Tony's lost dog" is modifying the word "friend."  It seems like the topics of conversation included talking about their friend, and that friend is "Tony's lost dog."  So, if that's what you want to say, then it's fine as it is.  Then, "Tony's" is acting as a determiner telling us which lost dog.  If that's not what you want to say, then we need more clarification.

"Meanwhile, they called the other game because of rain and some of the coaches along with several boys waited in the dugout until it had stopped raining before they started home."

As this sentence is written, the game was calld because of some coaches, several boys, and the rain.  This is why punctuation is important, by adding a comma before "and", you can make this into a compound sentence (2 sentences put together).  Actually, it gets rather wordy, so I would move the adverbial clause to the front of the second sentence to make things more clear.  A quick tip on revising...  After I've written the sentence, I can look at it and ask myself, "What was I trying to say?"  ...Based on my understanding of what you've written, try the revision below.

"Meanwhile, they called the other game because of rain.  Before they started home some, of the coaches, along with several boys, waited in the dugout until it had stopped raining."
